Flying H Stables was founded by Kent and Tracy Hersman. Kent, a 20-year Air Force and Army Veteran, has the same passion for protecting our citizens as he does caring for horses.
A close-knit family business, Flying H Stables, operates a 185-acre thoroughbred mare care and breeding operation just twenty miles from Lexington, Kentucky, directly across the street from Adena Springs Stallions in Paris, KY, home to Awesome Again, Ghostzapper, Point of Entry and Mucho Macho Man.
Kentucky stallions visited by mares and boarded at our farm have resulted in 90% + mares in foal!
Veterinary care in the Bluegrass is second to none: Experienced Vets from Rood and Riddle and Hagyard visit often for routine care and any emergency that arises.

Boarding Mares
$30 - $35 / Day
This is our core competency! We love working with your mares and caring for them year round in a way that will yield favorable results at the breeding shed, during foaling, and with follow-on care. Considering the fact that, several years ago, we were the ones shipping horses to Kentucky for care, we feel that we know and understand both in-state and out-of-state breeders' needs and we desire to optimize your experience with sending a mare to Kentucky.
Foaling Mares
$800
With each new foal that arrives, the breeder "realizes the anticipation" of being part of thoroughbred racing history. The unspoken question, "is it possible that this little wobbly 130 lbs foal could be in the Kentucky Derby in just over 3 short years?"

We are always on alert, doing night watch and keeping mares comfortable as we await the "new arrival."

Stalls are a spacious 16 x 24 with an emergency central heating system ready, if needed. Your mare will not be foaling alone and waiting for the morning feed crew to find it. We take great pride in allowing her to have space, but also being there to save a life in a moment of difficulty.


Raising Babies
$8 / Day
From birth to weaning, the impressionable young foal needs nurturing and boundaries. Flying H Stables staff understands that the critical foundation for the successful racehorse starts with a training philosophy that produces results. Kent highly recommends buying broodmares with dispositions to be good mothers. However, he stresses the fact that if the foals are not handled right in the first 6 months, it won't matter what the dam's pedigree or disposition is.

Flying H Stables is always proud to show the young foals and weanlings knowing that onlookers will be amazed at the poise and class on display!
Sales Preparation
$35 - $45 / Day
With the foundation built, thoroughbred sales preparation is a continuation of the lessons learned earlier in the young hopefuls life. Graduates of our sales preparation program have raced successfully for notable trainers: Bob Baffert, Jerry Hollendorfer, Steve Asmussen, and Doug O'Neil. In 2017 and 2018 the top horses prepped by Flying H Stables sold for: $300,000 / $240,000 / $160,000.


Layups & Rehab
$45 / Day
Sometimes horses need to wake up in the morning with something to look forward to. If your horse is dull, and just doesn't have that brilliance he/she once had, consider the fact that pasture, coupled with individualized care may be the ticket.
Flying H Stables is happy to take your thoroughbred in, assess his/her current state, call on outside professionals, if needed, and start a process toward renewal and recovery that should help transform the inside and outside of your horse.
